  1. Content Filtering AFTER Spam Filtering, not before! or OPTION

Content Filtering is currently processed BEFORE Spam Filtering. However since the new way of malware is included in .zip files, I have decided to BLOCK .zip, .7z files. Since this is possibly a legit form of sending emails that our vendors do use, I have a user notification of the quarantine so they can email me if needed to release it. I would 'not' want an end user access to the quarantine to release as someone else noted.. I just don't trust the end user to make that judgement call, as too many people decide to click these malware emails…

Putting Content Filtering after Spam Filtering introduces a huge vulnerability in GFI MailEssentials. This is because Spam Filtering is treated as as non harmful as much as content filtering is supposed to.

    Our suggestion is to:
Deploy GFI MailEssentials in a DMZ in front of your email server. Only enable Spam Filtering and set it to delete obvious spam. The Delete option is fundamental here otherwise you would end up with the same vulnerability we do not want to include.

Note: You do not need any extra GFI MailEssentials licensing to do so. The same license can be used since it’s for the same mailboxes.

  2. Support for DKIM

MailEssentials should identify emails containing DKIM and validate emails containing DKIM Signatures

  3. Filter Exchange 2013 health messages

Exchange 2013 sends health messages, proxy probes etc. internally every few minutes, to check MTA health and so on (see http://www.msexchange.org/kbase/ExchangeServerTips/ExchangeServer2013/monitoring/exchange-2013-e-mail-traffic-inboundproxyinboundproxycom-and-healthmailbox.html for more info about these). At the moment, these messages are visible in the GFI ME logs. I'd like these messages not to be touched by GFI ME at all or at least not visible...

  4. Turn off filtering for mailbox

An ability to turn off filtering for certain mailboxes. Some people have mailboxes that they don't need filtering for and shouldn't have to pay for licenses for them.

  5. Add ability to release from greylist hold

I often times can locate emails that are being delayed by the greylisting that I need to immediately release for users. There should be a link to "approve" or release that email from being held by the greylist like there is for quarantined messages.

  6. Email Exploit Engine

Currently we have an issue whereby an number of legitimate emails are being blocked by the Email Exploit Engine. Can this be updated to include some sort of white listing either by domain or email address?

I would suggest to open a ticket with GFI Support.

Emails that are blocked by the Email Exploit Engine typically are malformed or have something malicious, unless there is an issue and such emails are being triggered incorrectly.

Samples would help to facilitate resolution.

  7. TGZ File Blocked - Email Exploit Engine detected potential exploit/s Malformed File Extension

Since Version 20.3 the normal (Linux) used file-extention "tgz" for archive-files were blocked. We have test this with some harmless files. Renameing this files from tgz to tar.gz, the file will not blocked. So extend the ruleset for Email exploit engine, please.

  8. Mails from nonexisting domain users

A lot of SPAM looks as from "NonexistigAddres@MyDomain". Idea: Add rule for filtering mails from such senders. (Similar like Directory Harvesting for nonexisting recipients.)

  9. Ignore certain receive connectors

It would be nice if I could configure GFI MailEssentials 2012 to ignore smtp traffic on certain Receive Connectors in Exchange 2010. I have a receive connector configured in Exchange 2010 that server connect to for notification purposes. (environmental monitoring, Alerts, etc...) I already have a list of IP addresses in Exchange that allowed to send via this connector. If I want to use Anti-spoofing in GFI MailEssentials 2012, I need to add this same list of addresses to the Anti-spoofing screen, and the IP whitelist. Tedious to implement and maintain.

  10. Reports Enhancement

We need to have ONLY 1 report to be sent daily to email account's user contains digest from all GFI sections ( Spam / content / security ) showing why emails were been deleted or quarantined instead of single mail notification per processed email message , this will be very much more effective .

    Hi

There are various reports that can be received on blocked emails and individual emails can be disabled.
You can also for spam emails enable a daily report see Quarantine Reports http://manuals.gfi.com/en/mailessentials/content/administrator/quarantine/quarantine_options.htm

If you need such a report I would suggest to enable Quarantine RSS as it offers the ability to view it from any device and offer the ability to approve emails or completely delete them.

    Regards
    Ian

  11. Prevent automatic pickup of licenses

MailEssentials in SMTP mode picks up the number of users automatically following sending of emails.
In an set up where a server hosts multiple organisations and you want to protect only one of them, the MailEssentials product lacks because of this issue.
Although in the sales videos GFI recommends you to install GFI in SMTP mode to overcome the directory mode licensing in AD mode, the issue in SMTP mode is not really resolved because there is no way how you can block MailEssentials in continuing to add users automatically.
The worst thing is that it will stop relaying emails…
