    Hi

You can search for similar emails and be able to provide bulk actions on them from the quarantine search feature in GFI MailEssentials.

    Hi

This is possible to do via the Reports.

Enable reporting and generate the Emails Blocked report. It should contain all information required.

    Hi

I would heavily suggest against such a drastic approach. Although the new method of naming domains is still new, the uptake is growing fast and I am seeing some companies adopting them.

It's possible in GFI MailEssentials to add such TLD and block them by specifying
    *@*.auto
    *@*pizza
    *@*.zone etc...

However if such domains are bypassing your spam filters I would double check why this is happening as SpamRazer and AntiPhishing should block the majority.

    Regards
    Ian

    Hi

Are you referring to the legacy LanGuard interface or the new web interface please?

Also why do you use the device properties so much?

    Hi

This happens if the archiver server is not finding SQL up and running.

What you can do is ensure that SQL server is up and running on startup (Service is Automatic and not Automatic (delayed start))

You can switch GFI Archiver to Automatic (delayed start) to give time for the system to boot up.

In normal circumstances this should not occur, so not sure if you system is under heavy load during booting...

Scanning for a particular patch or application is not possible.

GFI LanGuard for windows patches checks with Windows APIs what is missing and what is the status of installed patches.

For 3rd party applications GFI LanGuard scans the entire set of installed applications. We cannot determine the install location of the applications, hence the whole system would require to be scanned.

    Hi

was this a malicious zip file? there are zip files that have their same replica inside and this keeps on going forever.

What I can suggest is to reach out to GFI support and provide a sample.

    Hi

This feature is already part of what SpamRazer. Spammy servers are automatically listed and blocked based on reputation.

Obviously such a list is maintained and cleaned up automatically.

updates for SpamRazer are downloaded daily.

    Hi

This feature is designed this way because of two reasons:

    1) a user receives only a limited number of content filtering and malware.
    2) users do not have access to such content filtering and malware

on the other hand, for spam a user receives hundreds of spam messages in a day and also the user should have access to the local spam quarantine.

There are various ways to give access to the spam quarantine mainly through:
    1) Quarantine Digests (and give access to the GFI MailEssentials Quarantine)
    2) Redirect to a folder in the user's mailbox - typically the Junk folder or another folder.

Putting Content Filtering after Spam Filtering introduces a huge vulnerability in GFI MailEssentials. This is because Spam Filtering is treated as as non harmful as much as content filtering is supposed to.

    Our suggestion is to:
Deploy GFI MailEssentials in a DMZ in front of your email server. Only enable Spam Filtering and set it to delete obvious spam. The Delete option is fundamental here otherwise you would end up with the same vulnerability we do not want to include.

Note: You do not need any extra GFI MailEssentials licensing to do so. The same license can be used since it’s for the same mailboxes.

AdminIan Bugeja (VP, Product Management, GFI) commented  ·

Content filtering is blocked before Spam filtering because if it were different then blocked content could end up spam quarantine leading to a vulnerability.

The order of processing is the following:
    1) SMTP level filtering - emails deleted or rejected (no quarantine)
    2) Malware scanning - (admin quarantine)
    3) Content scanning - (admin quarantine)
    4) Spam scanning - (user quarantine)

When an engine detects anything that should be blocked, it is blocked. The Malware and Content scanning place items in the administrative quarantine while spam is placed in the user quarantine.

The original request for this feature is that they are blocking all attachments with content filtering rules however to increasing amount of spam with attachments the administrator quarantine stared having an increased amounts of spam which was not the location for it to be.

If you want a strict policy to avoid this there are various methods to use such as enable grey listing for example to disable such emails from reaching the network in the first place.

    There is a tool.

It is also works with the GFI Archiver 12 version

Are these PST files mounted in the user's Outlook?

If so the Archive Assistant would be able to import these easily.

    Hi

    Thanks for your suggestion.

The import export tool uses the Search functionality to export messages.

Another option can be to use the Mailbox Restore Tool http://support.gfi.com/manuals/en/mar12admin/content/administrator/topics/configuration/restoremailbox.htm

Instead of a destination mailbox specify a path to a pst file (that does not exist) eg C:\mypst.pst
Emails would be exported to the PST file. The Mailbox Restore tool does not utilize search and is much faster.

    Hi

Thanks for reaching out. This is not a bug and GFI MailEssentials does not pick up domains registered with exchange.

When you add a new domain you have to enter the domain in GFI MailEssentials as well.

This needs to be a manual operation since there are cases where:
    1) you might not want to filter such mailboxes
    2) you have insufficient licenses if the users are different.

The headers mentioned are there added for troubleshooting purposes.

If you wish to remove such headers you can add a transport rule to strip them out when emails are being sent to external users of the organization for example.

    Hi

GFI WebMonitor is designed to be used via a web browser and not via a web browser through an RDP session. Rendering and bandwidth limitations put an unstable and delay in such a remote environment.

Are there any limitations why you do not use GFI WebMonitor console directly via the browser on your desktop please?
